Devendra Banhart Cancels Shows

The next time Devendra Banhart wants to indulge in a bit of skateboarding before a show he’d probably be better off sticking to virtual 360 flips and McTwists in a safe environment like “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.” The folk singer-songwriter was forced to cancel the last few dates of his spring tour because of a skateboarding mishap.

Last night Banhart posted the following message to fans on his Web site:

“Hey there friends. So your old pal Devendra just broke some bone in his leg skateboarding before the show yesterday. I’m OK thanks but we had to cancel the last few shows of the tour. I am SOOOOOOOOOO sorry to all of you who were planning on seeing us and the Grogs and we will really miss playing for you. I wanted to play the shows anyway like in a bed or something but the [doctors] didn’t think that was a great idea. THANK YOU forever for your support, it means the world to us and again, SORRY to all of you.”

The canceled dates include tonight’s scheduled show at The Depot in Salt Lake City and Tuesday’s gig at Ogden Theatre in Denver.

Once his leg is back in commission, Banhart is set to play this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival with a June 12 performance slot. The fest takes place June 10-13 at Seaclose Park in Newport, U.K. Headliners include Jay-Z, The Strokes and Paul McCartney.
