First the hard data. The sixth annual Mountain Jam is scheduled for June 4-6 on Hunter Mountain. Curated by Haynes and Radio Woodstock, this year’s lineup includes Alison Krauss + Union Station feat. Jerry Douglas, , The Avett Brothers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Grace Potter And The Nocturnals, Matisyahu, Les Claypool, Yonder Mountain String Band, Drive-By Truckers and Dr. Dog, plus so many bands and artists spread across four stages that you really do need a mountain to host the extravaganza.

Of course, Haynes’ band – Gov’t Mule – will headline the festival on Friday and Saturday night, while Sunday will include a special, one-time-only event centered around one of rock’s most notable figures.

The title says it all – Levon Helm’s 70th Birthday Celebration. Joining multi-instrumentalist Helm who played drums for The Band and sang lead on such classics as “Up On Crippled Creek,” “The Weight” and “Ophelia” will be Haynes, Ray LaMontagne, Steve Earle, David Hood along with son Patterson of the Drive-By Truckers, Jackie Greene and Allison Moorer with more artists to be announced.
