Gimme Shelter

Despite a busy touring and recording schedule, singer /songwriter Miranda Lambert makes time to do a lot of fundraising work for her fans. Unfortunately, there’s only one way some of them will ever be able to thank her – by licking her face.

For the second year in a row, Lambert and her pal Blake Shelton gave a benefit concert hosted by the MuttNation Foundation in Tishomingo, Okla., to support the community and its surrounding areas.

This year’s event – which featured acoustic sets from both singers and Shelton’s cousin Clancy Davis, a cocktail party, dinner and live and silent auctions – raised almost $70,000 for beneficiaries that include the local veteran’s program and the Tishomingo Animal Shelter.

Construction on the shelter was begun last year with proceeds from Lambert’s 2009 benefit. Proceeds from this year’s concert will help with maintenance and staffing of the facility.

Other groups that will benefit from the generous contributions of attendees from all over Oklahoma and Texas include Band Boosters for Music in the Tishomingo School System, The American Legion of Tishomingo, The Veteran’s War Memorial, Murray State College Scholarship Fund, The Millborn Fire Department and The WW II Veterans of Tishomingo.

Lambert’s work for her four-legged fans doesn’t stop there. On May 15, the singer will hold her third annual “Cause for Paws” benefit at the Villa de Felicita in Tyler, Texas.

The show and live auction will benefit the Humane Society of East Texas, which became a no-kill shelter following the start of Lambert’s charity efforts in 2007.

Other artists participating in the event, which features music and a tasty dinner, include Whiskey Myers, Kacey Musgraves and Nan Kelley.

Tickets for “Cause for Paws,” which are also tax deductible, are available at MirandaLambert.com or at the singer’s store in Lindale, Texas, as well as through The Humane Society of East Texas and KE Cellars in Tyler.
