Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival

The inaugural Solid Sound Festival can be described as the ultimate Wilco event. The alternative rock group is headlining and curating the fest with the rest of the lineup filled with individual performances by band members’ side projects.

The new independently promoted and ticket festival is set for Aug. 13-15 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Mass.

Solid Sound Festival will feature Wilco as well as drummer Glen Kotche’s On Fillmore, lead guitarist Nels Cline’s Nels Cline Singers, keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen’s Pronto and the Autumn Defense featuring bassist John Stirratt and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone.

The three-day festival will include additional musical performances along with a comedy stage, a concert-poster screening demonstration, planned workshops, film, video installations and DJs.

Fans will have the chance to check out interactive installations and exhibits such as Solid Sound Stompbox Station, an interactive guitar pedal exhibit created and demonstrated by Cline.

Ticketholders can also wander around the entire MASS MoCA campus and take a peek at the 150,000 square feet of galleries. Exhibits currently on display include the Sol LeWitt Retrospective, Inigo Manglano Ovalle’s “Gravity is a Force to be Reckoned with,” Petah Coyne’s “Material World: Sculpture to Environment,” Leonard Nimoy’s “Secret Selves” and a new installation by Michael Oatman.

Tickets go on sale Friday through the band’s official Web site, wilcoworld.net, as well as through solidsoundfestival.com. Early birds can get tickets to the three-day event for $86.50 (including all fees and parking). If you purchase tickets after June 1, a ticket will set you back $99.50 (including all fees and parking).

Wilco is currently wrapping up a few more U.S. dates with gigs booked through April 11’s show at Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh. In late April the band plays Japan followed by New Zealand and Australia.

Solid Sound Festival takes place in the middle of two treks through Europe. The first round of dates is set for May 20-31 followed by another set of shows Sept. 12-27. On Sept. 3 U.S. fans can catch Jeff Tweedy and co. at Jazz Aspen Snowmass festival in Snowmass, Colo.
