Prosecutor Says He’ll Prosecute Nelson Band Members
Authorities seized various substances on Nelson’s tour bus in January and charged six members of Nelson’s band with possession of either marijuana or untaxed liquor before a show Nelson eventually postponed because of an injured hand. Nelson wasn’t on the bus when the alleged contraband was seized.
Appearing at a press conference Friday, Duplin County District Attorney Dewey Hudson said substances seized were being tested at the state crime lab.
Although Hudson has received criticism for pursuing the case, the prosecutor said he needs to show celebs are not above the law.
The Winston-Salem Journal notes Hudson, a candidate for state senate, has said he would consider decriminalizing marijuana if elected.
“A lot of experts believe alcohol does much more damage to individuals and society, and it is legal,” Hudson has said, according to the Journal.
