Cheap Trick’s Summer Touring Partners
Having trouble making up your mind about which band you want to co-headline with Cheap Trick? Why not see both? Of course, location and travel expenses come into play, but nobody ever said being a fan was easy.
Cheap Trick’s summer run with Squeeze begins in Columbus, Ohio, at the LC July 9, plays Highland Park’s Ravinia Festival July 10 and hits NYC’s Radio City Music Hall July 13. Other stops include Boston (July 14), Philadelphia (July 16), Guilford, N.H. (July 17) and New Brunswick, N.J. (July 18).
Cheap Trick hooks up with Blondie in mid-August, playing in Springfield at the Illinois State Fair Aug. 20; Red Wing, Minn., at Treasure Island Aug. 21; Clarkston, Mich., at the DTE Energy Music Theatre Aug. 27; Kettering, Ohio, at Fraze Pavilion Aug. 28; Baltimore at Pier Six Pavilion Aug. 29 and Memphis at the Botanic Garden Sept. 3.
Fans will also see someone other than Bun E. Carlos behind the drums this year. Joining Robin Zander, Tom Petersson and Rick Nielsen is Nielsen’s son Daxx who is listed as the band’s “touring drummer.” In March the band announced that Carlos, while remaining a member, “is not the touring drummer.” The announcement also stated “everyone is healthy and Cheap Trick will continue as planned.”
Touring in support of its self-released album The Latest, Cheap Trick will appear on the PBS shows “Austin City Limits” and “Soundstage” later this year as well as a special on HD Net. Meanwhile you can look forward to seeing the band perform as the evening’s sole headliner or share top billing with either Blondie or Squeeze. Yeah, we know. Decisions… decisions… decisions…
