Meadowlands’ Stellar Opening

The $1.6 billion New Meadowlands Stadium opened for business April 10 with a college lacrosse tripleheader and a schedule of top-notch concerts on the books through mid-July.

The 82,500-capacity venue, new home of the NFL’s New York Giants and Jets, is said to be “bigger and better” than the old Giants Stadium next door, which is currently being torn down. The new stadium features four huge scoreboards, more concession stands, larger bathrooms and wider aisles and concourses among its amenities.

Bon Jovi is scheduled for four shows – three May 26-29 and the fourth July 9. Eagles with Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban are set for June 10 and U2 July 19.

The New Meadowlands is the second stadium to open in the area. The $200 million, 25,000-capacity Red Bull Arena, home to MLS’s New York Red Bulls, in Harrison, N.J., opened in March.
