Mellon Staff To Consol Center
The deal gives about 400 employees assurance they will transfer to the new facility under the current collective bargaining agreement with the same wages, benefits and seniority, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Mellon Arena employees were reportedly ready to go on strike just prior to a Pittsburgh Penguins-Ottawa Senators playoff match April 16 because staff were informed by letter Feb. 12 they would have to reapply and re-interview for their jobs at the new arena.
However, officials with Aramark and Service Employees International Union’s Workers United were able to come to terms, the paper said.
Mellon Arena, opened in 1961, is scheduled to shutter this summer.
