Presenting The Paul & Artie Songbook

It’s another one of those all-star tributes New York City does so well. This time 30 artists will perform classic songs by Simon & Garfunkel.

Billed as “a 25th anniversary celebration in Central Park,” the June 8 tribute features 30 artists performing 15 duets of S&G classics. While not actually saying who’s dueting with whom, the lineup includes Aimee Mann, Dar Williams, Ricky Skaggs, Loudon Wainwright III, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole, Joan Osborne, Stephen Kellogg, Dean & Britta, Cory Chisel, The Holmes Brothers, John Forte, Valerie June, Willie Nile, Alejandro Escovedo and John Roderick along with the obligatory statement, “and many more!”

Who will serve as the house band backing these fabulous artists? That would be Ollabelle, which will have its work cut out for it that evening as it backs artists of different genres playing music that can only be described as “timeless.”

Of course, when you talk about artists gathering in the Big Apple to honor one of their own, you eventually get around to mentioning Michael Dorf’s involvement. The NYC showman and founder of The Knitting Factory is well known for his all-star tributes, having put together memorable events at Carnegie Hall honoring several major artists including this year’s honoring of The Who as well as past events showcasing the works of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M. and more.

But this one’s under the stars at Central Park’s Summerstage, and is presented in association with Dorf and his City Winery. For more information on “The Music Of Simon & Garfunkel” tribute concert, click here for the Summerstage website.
