‘Pledge This!’ Gets Sequel
Paris Hilton is being sued again for allegedly failing to sufficiently promote “Pledge This!,” the 2004 stinker she acted in and co-executive produced with Jack Utsick, the former Florida concert promoter now ensconced in Brazil avoiding U.S. securities officials.
The self-promoting hotel heiress should return up to $1 million she was paid for appearing in the film because she refused nine requests for print and broadcast interviews she should have given under her contract, investor attorney Bryan West said.
“We paid her $1 million, and we’re entitled to get at least a portion of that back,” West told U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno. “Part of what actors do is promote their films.”
Hilton’s attorney, Michael Weinsten, argued she took part in several high-profile publicity events – including an appearance at Cannes Film Festival – and that the contract didn’t require her to do interviews when she was busy on other projects.
If it all sounds familiar, it should. Hilton prevailed in a similar suit filed by Michael Goldberg, the court-appointed receiver in Utsick’s recent case with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Goldberg attempted, and failed, to recover damages from Hilton, making the same claim for Utsick’s investors.
