Mishka’s 2010 Road Trip

These are good times for Mishka. His new album, “Talk About,” debuted at No. 1 on iTunes Reggae chart and he has plenty of tour dates for you to hear his music live beginning next week in Atlanta. He also has a partnership with a surf-culture clothing giant, but we’ll talk about that after the jump.

Mishka talked to Pollstar earlier this year, but at the time he had yet to lock down his touring schedule. Now the truth can be revealed and it goes something like this: headlining dates in June and shows with Donavon Frankenreiter in July.

Like many artists, Mishka became interested in music at a very early age and hails from a family of music lovers, including his singer/songwriter older sister who goes by the name Heather Nova.

“My mother listened to a lot of tapes and LPs back in the day,” Mishka told Pollstar. “My uncle was a musician, my big sister is a musician. My father plays a little harmonica. He’d never admit to being a musician but he’s musical. You got to really love music a lot in my family. My sister taught me guitar and has been a big inspiration to me.”

As to what fans can expect on his 2010 tour, Mishka dropped a few hints during the conversation.

“At least half of the material will be based on the new album and the rest will probably go back to the other three albums,” he said. “Right now the band is basically myself and four other musicians. We try to represent the music as close as can be, how it’s played on the album.

“Sometimes it’s difficult because of overdubs and stuff – backing vocals or whatever. It’s going to come across pretty much like the album.”

The tour begins with Mishka’s headlining dates, launching in Atlanta at Smith’s Olde Bar May 28. Next is Orlando at The Social May 29 and then off to Fort Lauderdale for a gig at the Culture Room May 30. Other headline dates include Denver at Bluebird Theater June 8 and Park City, Utah, at The Star Bar June 10.

Mishka first hooks up with Frankenreiter in Jacksonville, Fla., for two shows at Freebird Live July 4-5. Other stops with Frankenreiter include Isle Of Palms, S.C., July 6-7 at The Windjammer; N. Myrtle Beach, S.C., at House Of Blues July 9; Asbury Park at Stone Pony July 14 and Wellfleet, Mass., at the Wellfleet Beachcomber July 19-20.

The artist has also formed a partnership with surf-culture clothier O’Neill to promote the company’s ECONeill Men’s Collection which features tank-tops, T-shirts and beanies developed from 100 percent organic cotton and board short fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles and other things most people throw away.
