LN Posts Fillmore Miami Loss

A fan-based Facebook campaign to save the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Florida from demolition probably won’t have much clout now that theatre operator Live Nation has posted its latest financials.

Live Nation reportedly lost $700,000 last year and its current budget says it expects to lose another $600,000 next year, according to the Miami Herald. LN spent $3.5 million to renovate the historic building, the former home of “The Jackie Gleason Show,” when it signed a 10-year management contract in 2007.

That news has led to speculation that Live Nation may not choose to exercise a five-year renewal option when its current contract ends in 2017.

Whatever plan is deemed appropriate must be approved by elected officials and area residents first, the paper said.

A proposal to build a hotel at the Fillmore site, part of a renovation and expansion plan for the Miami Convention Center, is still under consideration.

The “Save The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Theatre” Facebook page had 7,559 fans at press time.
