Willie Nelson Gets A Haircut & Street

Willie Nelson has a brand new ’do – and his very own street in downtown Austin, Texas.

On Thursday the Austin City Council voted to celebrate the Texas-born singer and his over five-decade career by giving Second Street the honorary name “Willie Nelson Boulevard.”

Businesses and residents will be able to receive mail addressed with the new name but the street, between Trinity and San Antonio, will hold onto Second Street as its formal name.

The street already holds significance in the music world because it’s home to the “Austin City Limits” studio.

Nelson, who has lived in the Austin area for nearly 40 years, may soon also have his own life-sized statue. Nonprofit Capital Area Statues group is raising money to put up a statue of the musician in front of the studio.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see whether the statue features Nelson’s trademark braids or his new hairdo. The singer showed off his haircut, trimmed to just above his shoulders, during a May 22 performance in Maui, Hawaii, with his son Micah Nelson’s band, The Reflectacles.

Nelson’s waist-long hair has been such a part of his image that the haircut made headlines.

Spokeswoman Elaine Schock said that he got his hair cut in the past couple of weeks.
