Circus Promoter Banned In ND
A circus promoter that failed to share a percentage of ticket sales with cities in North Dakota last summer has been barred from doing business by the state’s attorney general.
Texas-based American United Entertainment LLC, also known as the Great American Circus of the Stars, reportedly failed to share proceeds with the cities of Park River and Grafton following a pair of shows.
North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem initially asked the state’s consumer protection division to conduct an investigation, according to the Grand Forks Herald, but pursued legal action after the circus failed to cooperate.
“It’s extremely disappointing that after Park River and Grafton welcomed the circus and its performers to their communities with typical North Dakota hospitality, the circus took advantage of this trust and stiffed them,” Stenehjem said in a statement. “In one instance, the circus slipped out of town in the middle of the night without paying the agreed ticket proceeds.”
