Doolittle Does More

Although last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Pixies seminal album “Doolittle,” the band keeps on celebrating the classic disc by announcing 11 new concert dates beginning in September.

The game plan may seem simple enough as the Pixies promise to play all of Doolittle plus its related B-sides, but the production is definitely complex. Designed by Pixies lighting designer Myles Mangino and designer Paul Normandale, the set includes four huge, undulating eyeball-like spheres as part of the band’s light show. Filmmakers Judy Jacobs, Tom Winkler, Brent Felix and Melinda Tupling created 11 films that will be projected onto a backdrop video screen to accompany 12 of the 21 songs in the setlist.

What’s all the fuss about? Released in 1989 as the Pixies’ third album, Doolittle was the first to impact the charts and included songs that are pretty much burned into the ol’ memory banks, including “Here Comes Your Man,” “Debaser,” “Wave Of Mutilation” and “Gouge Away.”

The first stop on the fall U.S. tour is in Upper Darby (Philadelphia) at Tower Theatre Sept. 7. Other shows include Nashville at Ryman Auditorium Sept. 10; Atlanta at Fox Theatre Sept. 13; Kansas City at Uptown Theatre Sept. 17; Houston at Verizon Wireless Theatre Sept. 20 and Las Vegas at The Joint At The Hard Rock Café / Casino Sept. 25 before wrapping in San Diego at RIMAC Arena Sept. 26.

Brit electronic pop group Fuck Buttons appears on all dates.

The Pixies are offering recordings of every show on the tour with the CDs becoming available at the band’s merch table immediately following every show.

A special presale for fans begins June 7, which also marks the soft-launch of the first-ever official Pixies website – PixiesMusic.com. Fans taking advantage of the presale will receive a recording of the show delivered via e-mail the day after the gig. The public onsale for most dates begins June 14.
