Memorial Day Movie Miss
When it comes to the Memorial Day weekend movie box office, Hollywood didn’t exactly, well, release the Kraken.
With lackluster reviews and performances for “Sex in the City 2” and “Prince of Persia,” the summer box office saw its worst Memorial Day weekend in 17 years.
Experts blame a lot of things – a rebounding economy that gives people more options, NBA and NHL playoffs, and a “soft” opening that didn’t include hits like last year’s “Night at the Museum 2,” which grossed $70 million on the three-day weekend.
There also could be issues like the flop-tastic “Robin Hood” and the premium pricing of 3D movies.
Others have noted that, with “Clash of the Titans” and “Iron Man 2,” Hollywood has already played its trump cards for the summer.
