Dirty Projectors Illuminate Fall
The DPs kick off the tour Sept. 7 at the famed 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and will hit a-list venues in the U.S. and Canada through the end of the month, with two multi-night stands (Sept. 25-26 at The Fillmore in San Francisco and Sept. 28-29 at the Aladdin Theatre in Portland, Ore.) thrown in for good measure.
The loosely-aligned, ever-shifting New York City combo – the brainchild of Brooklyn native Dave Longstreth – has collaborated with a number of well known artists over the past few years, including David Byrne and Björk, both of whom can also be counted among the band’s fans.
One of the DPs most interesting collabos is “Knotty Pine” which was recorded for the twentieth compilation by the Red Hot Organization, Dark Was The Night. The track features Byrne and Australian feminist icon and “Female Eunuch” author Germain Greer.
Bitte Orca, the group’s seventh full-length, was released last summer. The album ended up on a number of “Best Of” lists at the end of the year, including those compiled by Time, The Onion’s AV Club, Rolling Stone and New York Magazine.
