CAA Sports Spread

Creative Artists Agency is mulling a joint venture with private equity firms including Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and TPG to expand its sports business.

Sources reportedly close to the matter told the New York Times several firms have expressed interest in purchasing a minority stake in CAA as part of the deal, although the agency powerhouse has also considered self-financing such an endeavor.

CAA began testing the waters in sports representation in 2006, signing athletes including Sidney Crosby, LeBron James, Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning and David Beckham in the time since. The agency has also recruited several sports agents from IMG.

The agency already holds a stake in Evolution Media Capital, a venture that puts together film and sports deals, the Times said.
