The Strip and Gibson Guitar are behind the project. Christened “GuitarTown, it will feature more than 25 10-foot-tall fiberglass Gibson Les Pauls strategically placed in front of some of the Strip’s legendary businesses and music venues like the Roxy Theatre and the Whisky A Go-Go. Each mega-instrument will honor a musician, personality or artist associated with the street’s history and Gibson guitars.

Created by local and nationally acclaimed artists, the project represents another way to show off the results from the Strip’s current beautification project. GuitarTown launches in mid-August, two weeks before the third annual Sunset Strip Music Festival Aug. 26-28.

“We are very excited about Gibson GuitarTown coming to the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood,” Mayor John Heilman said. “GuitarTown is a perfect way for us to celebrate the creative heritage of the Sunset Strip. It allows us to celebrate art and our rock ‘n’ roll roots.”

After GuitarTown completes its Sunset Strip engagement, the individual colossal guitars will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting nonprofit organizations and charities.
