About Those Brian Wilson / Beach Boys Reunion Rumors

Have you heard the news about Brian Wilson reuniting with The Beach Boys for the group’s 50th anniversary tour? Wilson says it ain’t happening.

Apparently those reports were based on comments made to a Las Vegas Sun reporter by Beach Boy Mike Love.

Disney’s "Rockin’ The Bay" summer series kicks off at the California Adventure theme park with The Beach Boys.

“Now we’re gearing up for the 50th anniversary, and Brian Wilson, who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin music project, will rejoin us.” Love said, as quoted by the Sun.

News that Brian Wilson would rejoin his old band quickly spread through the blogosphere and eventually into mainstream media reports.

For example, Fox News ran with the headline “Brian Wilson To Rejoin Beach Boys For 50th Anniversary Tour” while the Toronto Sun printed “Wilson Back With Beach Boys.”

But the man at the center of the story says it’s not in the cards.

From BrianWilson.com:

“In response to recent stories Mike Love had the following comments: ‘The Beach Boys continue to tour approximately 150 shows a year in multiple countries. At this time there are no plans for my cousin Brian to rejoin the tour. He has new solo projects on the horizon and I wish him love and success. We have had some discussions of writing and possibly recording together, but nothing has been planned.’”

And just to make sure readers, especially those connected working for news services, didn’t misunderstand the message, the Mike Love quote ends with him saying, “There are no current ‘reunion’ tour plans.”
