Phony, He Wrote
Broward Sheriff’s deputy Shawn Barber turned himself in to authorities June 23 and faces fraud charges for allegedly writing a bogus ticket to his wife.
The genesis of the reported scam goes back to 2008 when Barber and his wife had tickets for a Def Leppard concert at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. However, those plans went south when their babysitter canceled, according to television station WPBF.
So Barber allegedly came up with a new plan. He wrote out a fake ticket to his wife as part of a phony accident report then tried to get his insurance company to reimburse him for more than $600 in expenses.
Barber’s attorney called the latest allegations against his client “ridiculous and kind of Mickey Mouse.”
Yes, that’s right. Allegations of falsifying an accident report are only the latest accusations leveled at the deputy. Barber was arrested on a grand theft charge in January for allegedly stealing a tractor from a nursery.
Meanwhile, Barber, who has been employed by the Broward Sheriff’s Office since 1998, is currently suspended without pay.
