Diddy Shuts Down Atlantic City Party

An Atlantic City, N.J., Fourth of July pool party featuring Sean “Diddy” Combs had a little too much party and not enough Diddy. Police shut down the event early Monday before the guest of honor even showed up.

The rapper/producer/actor/fashion designer was scheduled to host Sunday’s late night party at The Pool at Harrah’s Resort with a number of celebrities also planning on making appearances including Busta Rhymes and boxer Floyd Mayweather.

After initially tweeting that fans should join him at “the hottest 4th of July party,” several hours later Diddy sent out a few more tweets announcing that the shindig had been shut down.

“The party was so crazy I couldn’t even get in! 10 thousand people showed up. Damn I was ready to party!  In the room doin the 2 step,” he wrote. “Attention ATL! I just shut down Atlantic City!”

Although Diddy may have exaggerated his numbers just a bit, the party was indeed canceled because of the large crowd.

Authorities said an estimated 500 people in line tried to force their way into the event around 12:30 a.m. Police then shut down the party, kicking about 1,800 guests out of Harrah’s nightclub.

Refunds were offered to ticket holders.

One man was arrested on charges of obstructing the administration of law and resisting arrest. No injuries were reported.

“Because of the large response on the 4th, we made a proactive decision to postpone the originally scheduled nightlife activities,” Jay Snowden, the casino’s senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
