Last Tour Readies For Sonisphere

While Last Tour International was readying for the second staging of a Spanish Sonisphere in Madrid July 9-10, its Azkena Rock – the company’s oldest festival – pulled nearly 45,000 across three days to the Mendizabala Park near Vitoria-Gasteiz June 24-26.

The inaugural festival in 2002 marked Last Tour’s debut in the Spanish outdoor market, although it was quickly followed by the launches of Santander Festival in 2005 and Bilbao BBK Live in 2006.

This year’s Azkena lineup included Bob Dylan, KISS, Slash, Airbourne, The Damned, Bad Religion, The Hives and Chris Isaak.
The Sonisphere lineup at Madrid’s Getafe Park has Rammstein, Faith No More, Slayer, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Anthrax, Bullet for My Valentine and Coheed and Cambria.

Last year’s Spanish Sonisphere was a one-dayer at the 50,000-capacity Barcelona Forum and featured Metallica. Last Tour also promoted two Metallica shows at Madrid’s 10,000-capacity Palacio de Deportes.

Metallica played the Getafe site in 2008 at Last Tour’s Electric Festival and in 2007 played Bilbao BBK Live.
