Rock Sugar recently opened up for Steel Panther on a Monday night at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. It was their debut in their hometown, although they had been playing festivals in other cities.

Well, their five-song set must have impressed the HoB brass. By that appearance alone, Rock Sugar takes over for Steel Panther as the weekly Monday-night headliner at the venue. The gig starts immediately.

By the way, we meant they “take over,” not “takeover.” There is no hostile encroachment on Steel Panther’s territory. The raunchy ’80s heavy-metal party band was apparently already planning on heading back to the venue most associated with its history, the Key Club. Their show, too, will be Monday night.

Our history with Rock Sugar is pretty straightforward – we posted their video one day and they got signed to a booking agency the next. However, like all good parents, Pollstar loves both bands equally. If you’re in L.A. on a Monday night and want to see goofball mayhem coupled with tight musicianship, see Steel Panther. If you want to see a balls-to-the-wall rock show with a singer who can mimic anyone, see Rock Sugar.

(Oh, and when we say anyone, we’re not exaggerating too much. Singer Jess Harnell is a well-known voice actor. He’s the voice of Wakko on “Animaniacs,” Captain Hero on “Drawn Together” and Ironhide in “Transformers.)
