More Screaming Melvins Dates

Melvins is hitting up the Western United States this fall for a four-week tour as a follow-up to the grunge band’s seven-week North American late spring/summer trek.

If you missed the gang the first time around, here’s your chance to see the band show off tunes from its new album, The Bride Screamed Murder.

After playing Grumpy’s in Minneapolis Aug. 28, the fall tour kicks off Sept. 15 at Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif., and wraps up back in the Golden State Oct. 12 with a performance at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Melvins have lined up additional gigs at The Underground in Reno, Nev. (Sept. 21), Roseland Theater in Portland, Ore. (Sept. 24), The Crocodile in Seattle (Sept. 25), Neurolux in Boise, Idaho (Oct. 2), The Complex in Salt Lake City (Oct. 4) and Belly Up Aspen in Colorado (Oct. 7).

The Bride Screamed Murder was released June 1 on Ipecac Recordings, and is the third to feature founding guitarist/singer Buzz Osbourne and drummer Dale Crover along with Big Business’ drummer Coady Willis and bassist Jared Warren.

The AVClub.com writes that the album “feels as fresh and energized as anything the group released during its ’90s heyday, including the disc’s highlight, ‘I’ll Finish You Off,’ a quasi-melodic epic dictated by its own off-kilter riff-logic. Later, the band’s guttural cover of The Who’s “My Generation” is pasted to a bassline that sounds like a demonic possession of the “Sesame Street” theme—which might be some kind of profound statement, even though the band itself probably doesn’t know it.”

NME.com raves that, “With each passing album their wall of sound grows ever more fierce. This album is an onslaught of brutal drumming and bowel-loosening riffs (‘Evil New War God’), occasionally leavened by surprisingly delicate vocal interplay (‘Hospital Up’).”
