Hip-Hop Hooray
After pulling a 50,000 sellout crowd on all three days, festival promoter Andy Locher reckons Open-Air Frauenfeld is not only Switzerland’s biggest festival but arguably the biggest hip-hop festival in the world.
The old horse racing track and army training ground just outside Zurich was packed as such major acts as Eminem and Jay-Z played to a sunbaked crowd.
Locher says Frauenfeld has been building toward this summit for the last few years, and with attendance rising each year it was only a matter of time before it hit the sellout jackpot.
“Things started to fall into place when I got Jay-Z and Eni-men and it ended up being fantastic,” he told Pollstar. “Having achieved what we achieved this year, now I have to start thinking about matching it in 2011.”
The other acts at Fraunfeld July 9-11 included Die Fantastischen Vier, Dizzee Rascal, Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Culcha Candela.
