Vietnamese Pop Singer Attacked With Pepper Spray
Police say an anti-communist activist dressed like an old woman squirted pepper spray into the eyes of a Vietnamese pop star during a Santa Clara Convention Center concert performance.
A disguised Ly Tong was carrying a flower as he approached the stage Sunday night and singer Dam Vinh Hung bent down to take the offering in what appeared to be a tender moment.
But police say it was Tong wearing a wig, and the 61-year-old self-styled “freedom fighter” shot pepper spray into Hung’s eyes. He wasn’t seriously hurt.
Tong was arrested and booked for investigation of assault, burglary and discharging a chemical irritant. He will be arraigned Wednesday and bail is set at $52,000.
