Although Earle won’t be able to make it to the 2010 Newport Folk Festival, the good news is that Elvis Perkins In Dearland will be stepping in to fill his Aug. 1 slot.

The Newport, R.I., fest takes place July 30 at Tennis Hall of Fame and July 31-Aug. 1 at Fort Adams State Park. The lineup features Andrew Bird, Brandi Carlile, Calexico, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, The Avett Brothers and The Swell Season.

Earle was also forced to cancel Thursday’s appearance at Party In The Park at Riverside Festival Site in Rochester, N.Y., as well as Friday’s gig at Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, Mass.

According to his website, Earle hopes to reschedule the Iron Horse show for late August.
