One Dead, Two Injured In Oregon Van Crash

Tragedy struck two California-based death metal bands as their tour van rolled over early Aug. 2 near Medford, Ore., killing one musician and injuring two others.

The bands involved are San Francisco-based Early Graves and The Funeral Pyre from La Habra, Calif., according to The Oregonian. The newspaper says the accident happened around 5:30 a.m. when the 24-year-old driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The van then left Interstate 5 and rolled over.

While noting that some of the van’s passengers were wearing seatbelts, the newspaper says Early Graves member Makh Daniels was not one of them. The lead singer was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Taken to the hospital for “non-life threatening injuries” were driver Justin Garcia and Early Graves guitarist Tyler Jensen. The bands, which had just finished a gig in Eugene, Ore., were headed to Reno for another engagement when the accident occurred.
