Drummer Frankie Banali is piecing the band’s story together in what he promises to be a “warts and all” film documenting Quiet Riot’s journey from L.A. club band up through Kevin DuBrow’s 2007 death. While other rock docs have included the band, this is the first documentary focused solely on Quiet Riot’s rise to metal glory.

And what a story it is. Starting with its 1970s original lineup that included a rising young guitarist named Randy Rhodes, like many bands Quiet Riot played the club circuit and experienced personnel changes. Rhodes split to join Ozzy Osbourne’s then-new band, Blizzard Of Oz, in 1979 and Banali met up with DuBrow in 1980. Three years later Quiet Riot’s Mental Health album screamed up the charts and included the band’s first big hit, a down-and-dirty cover of Slade’s “Cum On Feel The Noize.”

The film includes footage taken from Banali’s own archives, including 1980 performances up through the band’s 2007 Rocklahoma appearance. There’s also a clip of a “DuBrow”
performance, a moniker QR used for a short time in 1982.

So far Banali has investing his own money in the project, and he’s seeking additional backing. That’s where you come in. He’s holding an online fundraiser to generate cash to finish the film. Like artists reaching out to fans to fund albums, he’s offering a several levels of financial participation, all of which result in awards of band-related merchandise.

The higher the pledge, the more valuable the merch, such as autographed photos, a personal drum lesson from Banali in Los Angeles, dinner with the drummer at the Rainbow, a personalized Mental Health platinum CD Award and your name in the film’s credits.

But there is a shelf life on this effort as the fundraiser ends Sept. 3.

“The moment my friend Kevin DuBrow died, my life and career went from sixty to zero with his final breath,” Banali said. “But now, DuBrow and Quiet Riot will receive a much-deserved video retrospective that will leave no stone unturned. Get ready to bang your head and feel the noize once more!”
