Guitarist Catfish Collins Dies

Phelps “Catfish” Collins, 66, guitarist for Parliament / Funkadelic and James Brown, died after a long battle with cancer Aug. 6.

Collins, older brother of bassist Bootsy Collins formed a group called The Pacemakers in 1968 that was recruited by Brown. Collins played on many Brown classics, including “Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine.”

He later joined P-Funk and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, and has recorded with acts like Deee-Lite (which also included Bootsy), Freekbass and H-Bomb.
