Ford Center Name To Change

The Oklahoma City Thunder has terminated its existing naming rights agreement with the Oklahoma Ford Dealers and has begun shopping for a new name to put on its home, the Ford Center.

The naming rights agreement between the NBA franchise and its partner allowed the team to terminate the existing agreement should an NBA franchise come to Oklahoma City, which occurred when the Seattle SuperSonics relocated in 2008 and changed its name to the Thunder.

The original agreement began in 2001 when the car dealerships agreed to pay $8.1 million over 15 years, according to the Oklahoman. Signage will remain the same while the Thunder shops for a new partner.

The Ford Center remains open while renovations that began in 2009 continue.
