The Maine Arena

Bangor, Maine, officials are moving forward on a proposal to build a new arena in the city and discussing ways to finance the project.

The proposal would replace the aging Bangor Auditorium with an 8,050-capacity arena and demolish and replace the existing civic center.

The auditorium could be used for convention space, according to the Bangor Daily News. Details of the project are still in the works but architect Don Dethlefs told city officials the design, which includes the arena, meeting space, sky bridge and other amenities, would be finished by Oct. 1.

A preliminary cost estimate for the arena is about $50 million and funding could come from public and private sources, the News said.
