Dr. Dog Takes You To Town

Dr. Dog may have just released its sixth album earlier this year but that doesn’t mean the guys don’t already have a few new tunes up their sleeves. And the indie rock band wants you to have the songs – for free!

Shame, Shame was released April 6 on Anti. After spending several months touring in support of the album, the Philadelphia-based band returned to its hometown and recorded and mixed four new tunes over the course of eight days.

The songs were inspired by songwriter/guitarist Scott McMicken’s involvement with Weathervane Music, a non-profit that “creates community, opportunity and resources for independent musicians.”

The band explains on its website that because they recently put out Shame, Shame and “we’re not feeling particularly anxious to ask you for more money … we’re just gonna give the songs up for FREE.”

The first track, called “Take Me Into Town,” is available to download for free now through Dr. Dog’s Facebook page. To download the song, fans simply have to share Dr. Dog’s album stream with their friends.

Dr. Dogs says that if fans aren’t signed up for Facebook, “don’t worry about it, we’ll figure out somewhere else to post the song that isn’t a government-run spy site.” The band provides a link to Anti’s blog and recommends that fans check back in a few days to download the song.”

The three additional new tracks will be posted online for free download “over the course of the next month or so.”

The four songs will also be sold as a double seven-inch vinyl, available exclusively at venues on Dr. Dog’s upcoming fall tour.

The tour kicks off Oct. 16 at Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto, and wraps up Nov. 13 at Warehouse Live in Houston.

Dr. Dog will also be making stops at Beachland Ballroom & Tavern in Cleveland (Oct. 19), Vic Theatre in Chicago (Oct. 21), Urban Lounge in Salt Lake City (Oct. 27), The Fillmore in San Francisco (Nov. 3-4) and Sunshine Theatre in Albuquerque, N.M. (Nov. 9).

Here We Go Magic and Good Old War will be joining Dr. Dog on select dates.

Fans can catch the band performing later this month at Live On The Green in Nashville, Tenn. (Nov. 16), Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in Tennessee (Sept. 17) and Eastern Mountain Sports Nor’Easter Festival in Lincoln, N.H. (Sept. 24).
