Keller Williams’ ‘Celebrate The Holidays’ Invite
Keller’s previously announced road trip for fall 2010 is already one of the more unique outings this year, mostly due to the artist having a children’s music album – Kids – landing in stores Oct. 26. To celebrate the album’s release, Williams is doing double-duty in some Pacific Northwest towns, performing as the “Super Music Friend” on select Yo Gabba Gabba dates during the day while doing shows for grown ups in the same communities at night.
But that’s November. Late December is an entirely different scene.
The night after Christmas and the last three nights of the year have Williams playing a different East Coast city each evening with a set list few other artists could pull off. But then, not everyone is as instrumentally adept as Williams, who at times comes across as a one-man travelling band.
Each show on Williams’ “Celebrate The Holidays” run will feature three distinct sets. Set No. 1 will consist of reggae, dub and funk versions of Keller’s songs and will feature Jay Starling on keyboards, Mark D on drums while the maestro plays bass.
Set No. 2 features Williams’ bluegrass vibe as the artist plucks away on his mini 12-string guitar while he performs with childhood buddy Larry Keel on guitar and Keel’s wife, Jenny, on bass, both of whom accompanied the artist on his Thief album released in May.
Set No. 3 finds Keller doing what helped make him famous – playing acoustic guitar with looped-out dance grooves in a presentation that brings it all back home.
Speaking of home, this little musical adventure begins Dec. 26 in Keller’s hometown of Fredericksburg, Va., as the artist continues his decade-long tradition of doing holiday benefits for the local SPCA. Taking place at the town’s Field House, this year’s benefit is extra special with the addition of local marching band Elby Brass providing musical entertainment during Keller’s set breaks. All profits from the show will go to support the Fredericksburg Regional SPCA.
After the SPCA benefit, Keller takes his three-set extravaganza on the road, playing The NorVa in Norfolk, Va., Dec. 29 and The National in Richmond Dec. 30 before heading to North Carolina and Charlotte’s Neighborhood Theatre for New Year’s Eve.
