Justin Townes Earle’s Arrest – An Update

Justin Townes Earle has released a statement disputing reports about his arrest that followed a show in Indianapolis last week.

The singer-songwriter was arrested Sept. 16 after playing Indianapolis’ Radio Radio. Earle, who is the son of singer Steve Earle, was charged with battery, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement, according to the official website for the city of Indianapolis and Marion County. He was released from jail after posting $150 bond.

“Unfortunately, reports surfacing online about the incident in Indianapolis are not accurate,” Earle said in a statement. “I have been advised by counsel that I should not comment on a pending criminal matter, but suffice to say that I am looking forward to having my day in court. I would also like to say that I oppose violence against women in any form.”

After Thursday’s show Earle reportedly caused over $200 worth of property damage in his dressing room. Radio Radio owner David “Tufty” Clough told police that Earle smashed a table, lamp and mirror, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report which was reported by the Indianapolis Star.

MyOldKentuckyBlog.com says things got a little rowdy after Earle was told the $200 would come out of his pay. Clough’s daughter, Cheyenne Caperton, claims Earle punched her when she tried to protect her father from being assaulted, according to the Indianapolis Star.

On Friday Earle tweeted that he missed a radio show in Louisville, Ky., because he was in jail. He added, “Oh and Radio Radio in Indy and all its staff can kiss my f**king ass! I think The Felice [Brothers] would agree.”

Earle’s court date is set for Oct. 19. Currently his calendar is booked that day with a show at Webster Hall in New York.

The singer is touring the U.S. in support of his latest album, Harlem River Blues.
