Free M.I.A. Show

It might have taken her more than two months to follow through but M.I.A. is keeping her promise to put on a free show for New York fans.

The gig takes place Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Brooklyn Bowl in New York.

On July 26 the singer tweeted the following message to fans a few days after her performance at “Hard NYC” at South Island Field @Governors Island in New York:

“F**k it! I’m gonna do a free show in NYC when I get back, though I don’t have powers over rain! If you still have the hard ticket [you’re] free! Xxxo”

Spinner.com noted that she added, “If you do me a lil dance, I’ll let you in too!”

According to RollingStone.com, M.I.A.’s Hard Festival performance was cut short thanks to a lightening storm.

“Two long, sharp flashes of lightning brought to a close a set that had itself been, to say the least, stormy. It was loud, chaotic, atonal and often seemed specifically designed to alienate. In other words, it was typical M.I.A.”

To get into the free show fans don’t have to provide their “Hard NYC” tickets or dance for M.I.A. They simply have to show up at the venue the day of the show and stand in line.

Tickets are being handed out to the 600-capacity gig on a first-come, first-serve basis. According to Brooklyn Bowl’s website, the line begins at 7 p.m. No one may line up before that time.

Doors open at 9:30 p.m. and the gig is set for 10:30 p.m. The show is an 18+ event.

M.I.A. is touring in support of her third studio album, Maya. Tonight she plays the Vic Theatre in Chicago, with U.S. dates booked through mid-October. In November the singer heads for Europe for a month-long trek. The singer already has plans for the New Year, having snagged a spot on Australia’s Big Day Out lineup.
