‘New Generation’ Up For ARIA Noms

Sia, Angus & Julia Stone, Birds of Tokyo, Guy Sebastian and Megan Washington all notched up six nominations for next month’s ARIA awards in Australia.

John Butler Trio, Tame Impala and The Temper Trap had five each.

Many of these acts were breakthrough or debut acts, leading many to predict a dominance of “new generation” acts in the wins at the Sydney Opera House.

Already announced were the Artisan wins. Siblings Angus and Julia Stone took out best producer and cover art for their Down the Way album.

Kris Moyes won best video for Sia’s “Clap Your Hands.”

Sound engineer Wayne Connolly took the opportunity when he accepted the engineer win for his work on New York-based Paul Dempsey’s “Fast Friends” to apologise to the Something For Kate member for the food poisoning he got at his studio.
