Halifax Promoter Goes Bust

The promoter of a number of concerts on the Halifax Commons is ceasing operations and leaving some suppliers high and dry following what he says was a slow summer.

Power Promotional Events’ Harold MacKay has presented concerts at the site featuring Paul McCartney, KISS and most recently Black Eyed Peas and Country Rockfest.

MacKay told the Chronicle Herald that ticket sales at this summer’s shows didn’t provide enough cash to settle up company debts.

“We simply did not make enough money to cover our expenses,” he said.

He added that he does not have plans to declare bankruptcy or put a repayment plan into effect, explaining, “There is nothing left. There are no assets.”

But what about the vendors that provided their services for the concerts?

MacKay reportedly alerted several suppliers via e-mail that Power Events had “exhausted all our efforts to try and resolve the situation.

“It is therefore with much regret that we inform you that Power Promotional Events Inc. will cease operating and we sincerely apologize for not being able to fulfill our obligations to you.”

Tour Tech East head Peter Hendrickson, who provided audio, video and lighting for the shows, told the Herald that several suppliers he’d spoken with were “very surprised” by the news of Power Events’ closure and had plans to join forces “co-operatively to consider our options.”
