Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

The saying goes that if the mountain won’t come to Muhammad, Muhammad must go to the mountain. The same can be said for Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Because most venues aren’t too fond of bands inviting fans up on stage, the indie folk band’s frontman Alex Ebert often gets off the stage to be close to fans.

“Alex gets into the crowd every show,” Paradigm’s Heather Kolker told Pollstar. “He adores the fans, appreciates them and connects with them. He’s very accessible.”

The Magnetic Zeros features Ebert – who created the character of Edward Sharpe as a messianic figure – along with co-vocalist Jade Castrinos and eight additional musicians.

The band released its debut album, Up from Below, in July 2009. Tunes from the album have been featured in commercials for the NFL and the 2011 Ford Fiesta in addition to episodes of “Gossip Girl” and “Chuck.”

New Community Management’s Bryan Ling told Pollstar booking shows for such a large band has been a little tricky.

“Finding an opening slot or touring with another band was almost impossible. … Ten people and so much production – it was just a nightmare to even consider taking us out on the road.”

By opting for mostly headline dates and festivals, the band has managed to do just fine.

This summer the band rocked the U.S. festival circuit, booking sets at , , , , , , , and .
