No Drug Charges For T.I.
T.I.’s latest problems began Sept. 1 when he and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were pulled over while driving in West Hollywood. According to police, the officers searched his car after noticing a strong odor believed to be from marijuana wafting from the vehicle.
The arrests were a big problem for T.I, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., mainly because the performer was still on parole from his earlier prison stretch where he was doing time for violating federal weapons laws. The original sentence was a year-and-a-day but T.I. was paroled five months early on condition that he stayed away from drugs and avoided any trouble as well as participated in a rehab program and took three drug tests.
But apparently trouble and T.I. are old friends and on Oct. 15 a federal judge ordered him back to prison. Now L.A. prosecutors have said the amount of drugs found in his car last month – four ecstasy tablets – isn’t worth going to court over. That and the fact that T.I. is already looking at another stretch in the big house.
As you can probably guess, T.I.’s lawyer is happy with today’s decision.
“The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office’s decision to reject T.I.’s case was the right thing to do under the circumstances,” attorney Steve Sadow wrote in an e-mail.
Meanwhile, T.I. is expected to return to prison Nov. 1.
