Foo Fighters Ready To Rock Again

A poster on the band’s website declares “the return of Foo Fighters.” Dave Grohl and the gang are returning from their brief hiatus with two major U.K. dates on the books and the group’s heaviest album yet.

The Foo Fighters are set to play the 65,000-capacity Milton Keynes Bowl July 2 and 3. Death Cab For Cutie and Tame Impala open for the band on July 2 with Jimmy Eat World and The Hot Rats taking over support duties the following day. Biffy Clyro is opening both shows. Also look out for extra special guest DJ Bob Mould.

The Milton Keynes Bowl shows mark the Foo Fighters’ first gigs since the band played the December 2008 Grammy Nominations Concert Live at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles. The band last played the U.K. in June 2008 with a two-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London.

Grohl said the band started writing the follow-up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace about eight or nine months ago.

“The last month and a half we’ve been in my garage recording. Totally old school, analog,” the singer told BBC Radio’s 6 Music News in an interview posted online today. “With Butch Vig, the guy that produced Nirvana’s Nevermind record. You know this whole project has been really cool because I haven’t made a record with Butch in 20 years. Almost exactly 20 years. And plus, we’re making a movie about this whole experience.”

Grohl said Vig promised to help the band make its “heaviest record yet.” Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic also makes a guest appearance on the album.

“The 14 songs that we’re recording, there’s not one acoustic guitar. There’s not even an acoustic guitar in the house. So each song that we’re doing is full on,” Grohl said. “I can’t wait until everybody else hears it. … I know when it comes out Foo Fighters fans are going to freak out because honestly, it’s awesome.”

Tickets to the Milton Keynes Bowl shows go on sale Nov. 5 at 9 a.m.
