Vikes Fans Lukewarm On Stadium
A recent poll of Minnesota residents regarding a new Vikings stadium shows that two-thirds want the NFL team to stay put at the Metrodome in Minneapolis and more are against a publicly funded stadium, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
The NFL team has been pushing for a $791 million stadium project because the Vikings’ lease with the aging Metrodome is set to expire after the 2011 season.
Team officials had previously proposed using taxes on professional sports memorabilia plus revenue from hotel and car rentals to pay for the development but state officials rejected that idea.
