Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear Lineup Announced
The event, which combines Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity and Colbert’s March to Keep Fear Alive, takes place Oct. 30 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., two months after Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally and Al Sharpton’s simultaneous Reclaim the Dream march.
Although Comedy Central representatives are keeping their lips sealed when it comes to details about the demonstration, the Christian Science Monitor got its hands on the rally schedule provided to the National Park Service.
The Roots will help provide entertainment for the pre-show between 12-12:40 p.m.
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staple are set to perform for 10 minutes, beginning at 1:40 p.m.
Sheryl Crow will briefly take the stage at 2:15 p.m. for a five-minute scheduled performance.
Don Novello aka “Father Guido Sarducci” and Sam Waterston will provide readings at 1:20 p.m.
The schedule also includes a number of undetermined musical guests, a comedian and additional speakers who are still being lined up.
The Christian Science Monitor notes that the rally schedule is “subject to change and revision right up to the final moment.”
The rally will be shown on Comedy Central and streamed live on its website.
Here’s what attendees and viewers from home can expect, according to the Rally to Restore Sanity’s Facebook page:
“Think of our event as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement; the Million Man March, only a lot smaller, and a bit less of a sausage fest; or the Gathering of the Juggalos, but instead of throwing our feces at Tila Tequila, we’ll be actively *not* throwing our feces at Tila Tequila.”
