A Cow, A Bear & A Mink – A Mishmash Of Musical Animal Stories

A New York steakhouse has recreated Lady Gaga’s meat dress, Alaskan rockers Static Cycle and Bristol Palin have a bone to pick with PETA, and an animal rights group has posted a video online of Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry killing a tame black bear.

The Meat Monster

The meat dress Lady Gaga wore to the MTV Video Music Awards has inspired New York’s Old Homestead Steakhouse to craft its own edible ensemble that owner Marc Sherry says is “a cut above.” Sherry said he thought the pop singer’s dress was “very tacky” because it was made out of flank steaks, according to the New York Daily News.

The steakhouse’s 85-pound dress is worth $100,000 and is made out of all USDA prime meat including porterhouse, leggings from rib eye and kobe beef boots. The outfit is stitched together with butcher’s twine.

Waitress Mery Lopez modeled the dress outside the store on Wednesday, complete with a necklace of marrow bones include a 32-ounce rib eye chapeau. A designer good bag was filled with filet mignon, chocolate sauce, kobe burgers and candy corn.

The Old Homestead Steakhouse says the outfit can be eaten and the restaurant is willing to offer recipe ideas and help with the carving. Sherry notes the dress isn’t that expensive because the buyer will “have enough meat for six months for your freezer.”

Dancing With The Minks

Bristol Palin recently took a break from the 11th season of “Dancing with the Stars” to make a guest appearance in a music video for Alaskan rock band Static Cycle. In the video for “Inside This World of Mine” the daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin wears a Mink fun coat and hat to represent Mother Nature.

Because the rockers expected to get some flack from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), frontman Jared Navarre has released a statement defending the costume choice.

“This country was founded by living off the land,” Navarre said. “And that tradition continues here in Alaska where many still hunt for food and clothing, fish, clear trees for lumber for houses, and drill oil to run the economy. We chose a fur coat for Bristol as a natural way to help portray her role as ‘Mother Nature’ – nothing synthetic. A nylon jumpsuit obviously would not have represented Alaska or the role. Bristol is of Alaska Native heritage and it’s culturally insensitive for PETA to come to Alaska and tell us what to wear.”

In other PETA news, the organization recently announced it was willing to help pay for Lindsay Lohan’s $50,000 bill for substance addiction treatment if she agreed to go vegan.

Something Not To Be Proud Of

After pursuing a federal lawsuit against the U.S. government under the Freedom of Information Act, an animal rights group called SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) has gotten its hands on a videotape of Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry killing a tame bear named Cubby. The group posted the video online earlier this week.

“Once you watch this video, you will see proof of how loathsome and revolting a human being can be,” Steve Hindi, president of SHARK, said in a statement on the group’s website. “Troy Gentry’s actions are vile; he is a coward and a liar and he mercilessly slaughtered a beautiful animal who’s only fault was that he was worth more dead to his owner than alive.”

Gentry pleaded guilty in 2006 to falsely registering the bear as shot in the wild. According to the video posted on YouTube, which included footage obtained by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Gentry paid $4,650 to shoot the tame bear in a one-acre enclosure surrounded by an electric fence. The bear’s owner sold the bear because he didn’t want to pay to fix its dental problems.

The country singer was fined $15,000 and put on probation for three months. He was also forced to give up the stuffed bear and bow he used.
