Five More Inducted To ARIA

Five Aussie acts were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion.

They included The Church, ’60s R&B band The Loved Ones , country singer John Williamson, ’80s alt-rockers The Models and ’60s pop singer-songwriter/radio/TV host Johnny Young.

Promoter Michael Chugg, who inducted The Loved Ones, recalled how they were responsible for him as a 19-year-old moving from his home state of Tasmania to the more exciting music scene of Sydney.

Soul singer Tina Arena flew from her home in Paris to induct Young, whose variety TV show “Young Talent Time” launched her career as a pre-teener.

The Church’s normally taciturn Steve Kilbey delivered a funny 15-minute speech in which he admitted they signed to Chugg as manager in the ’80s because “we were too scared not to.”
