A Pardon For Jim Morrison?
When asked during an interview with political newspaper The Hill about the prospects of a posthumous pardon for Morrison’s indecency charges, Crist didn’t say he would pardon the Doors frontman, but didn’t rule it out, either.
“Candidly, it’s something that I haven’t given a lot of thought to, but it’s something I’m willing to look into in the time I have left. Anything is possible.”
Morrison was cleared of a felony lewd / lascivious behavior and drunkeness charges but was convicted of exposure and profanity. Morrison died in 1971 and never did any time for the convictions.
This isn’t the first time Republican Gov. Crist, who unsuccessfully ran as an independent for a Florida U.S. Senate seat in this month’s election, has talked about pardoning Morrison. In 2007 The Guv indicated he would consider it and said there was some doubt as to “how solid the case was,” according to The Hill.
However, time is running out for Crist to take action. Although he still has two months to go as Florida’s governor, any pardons The Guv makes must go through the Board of Executive Clemency, which meets for the last time this year on Dec. 9 – one day after what would have been Morrison’s 67th birthday.
