Models Bassist Dies

James Freud, bassist and singer with Australian alt-rock band The Models, died Nov. 4. He apparently killed himself at his home after succumbing to alcoholism after five years of abstinence.

One of the Models’ best known songs, “Barbados,” was about his drinking, which he further recounted on two books, “I Am the Voice Left From Drinking” in 2002 and “I Am the Voice Left from Rehab” in 2007.

A week before, Freud declined to join the band when they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. He was 51. A planned tour by The Models and fellow ’80s band The Reels, in February through Feel Presents, was canceled.
