LA Phil Will Simulcast 3 Concerts In U.S. & Canada
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra will transmit live performances of three concerts next year to 450 high-definition theaters in the United States and Canada.
All will be conducted by 29-year-old Gustavo Dudamel. The Los Angeles Times says the broadcasts will be covered by multiple cameras, directed by specialists and will include backstage access, interviews and shots of the orchestra’s downtown home, the Disney Concert Hall.
The concert dates are Jan. 9, March 13 and June 5. Tickets will cost $18 to $22.
Philharmonic officials say they hope the project raises the profile of classical music and expands the orchestra’s appeal.
Several operas have successfully used the format. Orchestras in Berlin and Philadelphia have used it recently.
