Copenhell II
The sequel may lack the mock-horror of the original – which had the devil wandering around Copenhagen looking for a burger stall – but the marketing for the second Copenhell festival in Denmark has also launched with a film.
This time it’s more of a celebration of the inaugural gathering at the 10,000-capacity industrial works site on Refshale Island.
The Live Nation-produced event was also a hit for its specially brewed – and apparently very strong – Copenhell beer, the effects of which led to what a Berlingske Tidende reporter described as “a quite brilliant experience.”
The devilish theme is continued by the festival’s mascot, which is drawn by a different illustrator each year. This year it was Joe Petagno, who has worked for Motörhead among others. The 2011 mascot – commemorating the 1711 plague that wiped out a quarter of the population of Copenhagen – has been created by Ed Repka, who has done album sleeves for Death, Venom and Megadeth.
He’s created the “The Plague Doctor,” a black-clad character carrying a small lance and a torch. The lance is for bloodletting and the torch is for burning corpses. The second edition of Copenhell is June 17-18.
